Performing Umrah is a deeply spiritual journey. A chance to draw closer to Allah ﷻ, renew our faith, and seek forgiveness. For many pilgrims blessed with the opportunity to stay longer in Makkah, the question naturally arises: “If I complete the first Umrah, how do I begin the second Umrah?”

Once you complete your first Umrah, the restrictions of Ihram are now lifted, by the mercy of Allah. To perform another Umrah, you must once again re-enter the state of Ihram with a new intention (Niyyah) and proceed accordingly.
Step-by-Step Guide to Starting Your Second Umrah:
The procedure is pretty simple but the intentions should remain pure always. Rituals remain the same as the first Umrah, the only difference is the starting point. As you must have to go outside the boundary of the Haram.
1. Complete Your First Umrah:
- Perform Tawaf, then move towards Sa’i, and then shave/trim the hair.
- Once you are done with all of these mandatory steps, you are out of Ihram.
- After completing all the obligatory rites, you exit the state of Ihram, and by Allah’s mercy, your Umrah is complete.
2. Go to a Miqat (Boundary Point for Ihram):
- Since you are already in Makkah, you cannot simply make the intention from your hotel.
- You must travel outside the boundaries of the Haram to a designated area (the nearest is Masjid Ayesha, Taneem Mosque, about 7 km from Masjid al-Haram).
3. For your second Umrah, you must once again assume Ihram:
- At Masjid Ayesha (or another Miqat), pray two raka’ats of nafl.
- Make your intention for Umrah sincerely in your heart and verbally if you wish.
- Enter into Ihram once again, reciting the Talbiyah:
“Labbayk Allahumma Umrah.”

4. Return to Masjid al-Haram:
Proceed back to the Haram to perform your second Umrah just as you did the first (Tawaf, Sai, and Halq/Qasr).
Important Points to Remember:
- Each Umrah requires a fresh Ihram and intention.
- Without going outside the Haram boundary, the second Umrah is not valid.
- Most pilgrims use Masjid Ayesha for this purpose, as it is the closest and easily accessible.
- Women, the older people, or those with health concerns may seek guidance from scholars if they face difficulties in traveling back and forth.
A Gentle Reminder:
While performing multiple Umrahs is permissible and carries reward, it is important to remember that the greatest blessing is Ikhlas (sincerity) in every act of worship. One Umrah, if performed with a pure heart and full devotion, can be more valuable than many done mechanically.
To begin your second Umrah after completing the first, you must travel outside the Haram boundary, renew your Ihram and intention, and return to Masjid al-Haram. The nearest and most convenient place for this is Masjid Ayesha (Taneem). May Allah ﷻ accept your Umrah, grant you ease, and bless you with the reward of sincere worship.
