1. Damascus (Dimashq), Syria

Damascus — Dimashq — is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities on earth and one of the crown jewels of Islamic civilization. For over 1,400 years, it has been a center of Islamic scholarship, culture, trade, and spirituality. It was here that the Umayyad Caliphate built its great mosque, that Salahuddin Al-Ayyubi was laid to rest, and that centuries of scholars, Companions of the Prophet, and saints walked its ancient lanes.

Umayyad Mosque

One of the most architecturally and historically significant mosques in the Muslim world, home to the resting place of Prophet Yahya (John the Baptist).

Saladin Mausoleum

It is a land shaped by the legacy of legendary companions, most notably the undefeated general Khalid ibn al-Walid, whose majestic sanctuary graces Homs, and punctuated by the ancient, rhythmic wooden waterwheels of Hama that have sung along the riverbanks since the dawn of Islamic history.

Mabrak Mosque
