Early Life of Sheikh Muhammad Al-Yaqoubi
Born in Damascus, Syria, in 1963, Muhammad Abul Huda al-Yaqoubi comes from a well-known family of Islamic scholars. His lineage traces back to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ through Imam Hasan, and his family has been preaching Islam for centuries. Al-Yaqoubi’s father, Ibrahim al-Yaqoubi, was a renowned scholar, and his grandfather, Ismail Al-Yaqoubi, was also a scholar.
Al-Yaqoubi received his early education from his father, who served as both his teacher and spiritual guide; he was an Imam and instructor at the Grand Umayyad Mosque. He was given several ijazas, or certificates of authority to teach, narrate, and issue legal rulings under Islamic law.

Education of Sheikh Muhammad Al-Yaqoubi
Al-Yaqoubi’s formal education included a degree in Arabic Literature from the University of Damascus and a PhD in Linguistics from the University of Gothenburg in Sweden. He also studied philosophy at the Beirut Arab University.
Al-Yaqoubi’s career as an Islamic scholar started when he was quite young. He followed in his father’s footsteps teaching in the same mosque, and becoming a world renowned Islamic scholar of theology, jurisprudence, and Hadith. By the age of 17 he was designated a Friday Imam and speaker at the al-Saadaat Mosque. He is widely-recognised as one of the reliable authorities for the issuing of fatwas in Islam.
Muhammad al-Yaqoubi is a distinguished Islamic scholar, jurist, writer, and teacher who devoted his entire life to humanitarian service. Originally from Damascus, he currently resides in Morocco, where he continues his scholarly work.

Guidance of Sheikh al-Yaqoubi

He also received many other ijazas from the most prominent scholars of Syria, including Mufti Abul Yusr ‘Abidin and Sheikh Makki al-Kittani (Allah show them mercy), granting him some of the shortest isnads in the world.

The Sheikh is fluent in several languages, including Arabic, English and Swedish, and has trained several hundred scholars, imams and preachers, both in Syria and the West. He is the author of a number of books in Arabic, as well as several poems in both Arabic and English.
